LightTube Fiber Optic Breakout Kits

Opticonx offers a broad portfolio of LightTube fiber optic breakout kits (A.K.A fanout kits or splitter kits) made with our own LightTube brand furcation tubing. These kits are designed to quickly and easily breakout all standard construction fiber optic cables, including: loose tube stranded, tight buffered, micro distribution, loose tube unitube/central tube and ribbon, for direct termination with industry standard connectors. During furcation, fiber optic breakout kits branch out loose fiber strands from a buffer tube into protective tubing in preparation for connectorization.

Our breakout kits come in 3 mm, 2 mm, and 900 µm diameter tubing sizes with yarn strength members that slip over and lock in the furcation unit. Oval shaped tubes are also offered for ribbon fiber termination. The 2 mm and 3 mm breakout kits allow for quick and simple termination distribution cables. They’re color-coded to eliminate the need for marking individual fiber ends. Opticonx fiber optic breakout kits also feature heat-shrink tubing to limit fiber bending and offer strain relief.

What Are Fiber Optic Breakout Kits?

During furcation, fiber optic breakout kits branch out loose fiber strands from a buffer tube into protective tubing so you can add a connector. Also called a fan out kit, fiber optic breakout kits function to terminate cables with large fiber counts.

Breakout kits come in 3 mm, 2 mm, and 900 µm diameter tubing sizes with yarn strength members that slip over and lock in the furcation unit. The 2 mm and 3 mm breakout kits allow for quick and simple termination distribution cables. They’re color-coded to eliminate the need for marking individual fiber ends. Fiber optic breakout kits also feature heat-shrink tubing to limit fiber bending and offer strain relief.

When to Use Fiber Optic Breakout Kits

Here are some common situations where a breakout kit is most useful:

  • Terminating through a pass-through cable plate: The kit will add extra protection to the exposed cable that is directly connected to a device.
  • Terminating in an equipment rack: The breakout kit will also protect the cable that’s exposed and connected to a device.
  • Terminating in an equipment rack fiber tray: A 900 µm or 3 mm kit may not be required because enclosed fiber trays block access to 250 µm fibers after termination.
  • Terminating in a surface mount enclosure: A 900 µm or 3 mm kit comes in handy when using generic walls or if the fiber is accessible by other fibers.
  • Terminating to a wall plate: Breakout kits are optional as an extra precaution when installing fiber with a wall plate.
